The Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) All-City Band is preparing for the conclusion of its fall season with two major upcoming performances. Under the direction of Josh Goodman, the band will participate in the Bands of America (BOA) Indianapolis Super Regional at Lucas Oil Stadium on October 24 and 25. Their performance is scheduled for 9:45 p.m. on Friday.
Goodman described the event as a significant moment for the students. “The Super Regional is an amazing way for our students to have one last performance of our show,” Goodman said. “There’s no better place for a capstone experience.”
The IPS All-City Band consists of high school musicians from across the district. The ensemble has a reputation for strong performances in events such as the AES 500 Festival Parade and various competitions. The program aims to foster community, develop musical skills, and provide students with opportunities beyond what is available in their individual schools.
This year, several IPS students received scholarships to the Music for All Summer Symposium. The Super Regional offers them a chance to reconnect with instructors and mentors from the camp.
The band’s season will conclude at the BOA Grand National Championships on November 13, also at Lucas Oil Stadium. At 11:45 a.m., students from all four IPS high schools and all seven middle schools will join for a mass ensemble performance. The event is presented by Yamaha and supported by the Arts Council of Indianapolis, Indiana Arts Commission, and the City of Indianapolis.
Goodman highlighted the significance of this collaboration. “I believe this will be the most special massed ensemble performance in the past five years,” Goodman said. “It shows what’s possible when a community comes together to support music education — and what Rebuilding Stronger truly means for our students.”
