Indiana high school seniors and college students interested in teaching careers can now apply for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, according to State Representative Dave Hall. The scholarship, which was established in 2016 through legislation by the Indiana General Assembly, offers $10,000 per year for up to four years. Recipients must commit to teaching in Indiana for at least five years.

"We need great teachers in every corner of the state," Hall said. "This scholarship gives aspiring educators the support they need to step into that role and make a meaningful impact."

The scholarship is open to students who have graduated or will graduate from an Indiana accredited high school or a non-accredited nonpublic high school. Eligibility requirements include ranking in the top 20% of their graduating class, having a top 20% ACT or SAT score, or maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Applications for the 2026-2027 academic year are available at scholartrack.che.in.gov until January 31. Applicants will be notified about their status by April 2026. The Indiana Commission for Higher Education can be contacted at NextTeacher@che.in.gov for questions.

In 2023, new legislation increased the scholarship amount from $7,500 to $10,000 and eliminated the annual cap of 200 recipients. Last year saw over a thousand applications, with nearly 300 scholarships awarded—a record number for the program.

More information about the scholarship can be found at https://www.in.gov/che/.
