Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) has announced Jeremy Baugh of Broad Ripple Middle School and Allyson Peterkin of Daniel Webster School 46 as the district’s 2026 Principals of the Year.

The announcement was made on October 8 at each recipient’s school. IPS Superintendent Dr. Aleesia Johnson commended both principals for their leadership and dedication. “Jeremy Baugh and Allyson Peterkin exemplify the very best of leadership in Indianapolis Public Schools,” Dr. Johnson said. “Their commitment to students and families and their ability to bring people together reflect the qualities we value most in our principals. We are proud to recognize the difference they are making in their school communities and across IPS.”

The Principal of the Year Award is given to school leaders who create exceptional educational environments and demonstrate excellence in leadership, aiming to encourage ongoing improvement across IPS.

Jeremy Baugh, nominated by Stacey Bottley, IPS Executive Director of Schools, is in his second year at Broad Ripple Middle School. Bottley noted that Baugh has transformed the school’s operations, safety measures, communication, and systems, leading to measurable gains in student achievement and a positive school culture. “Mr. Baugh consistently demonstrates a commitment to building strong systems that foster academic excellence and a supportive environment,” Bottley said. “He embraces challenges, adapts to evolving needs, and creates the conditions for long-term success. His leadership reflects the spirit of Team IPS.” Baugh holds a Master of Science in School Administration from Butler University and a Bachelor of Music Education from Indiana State University.

Allyson Peterkin was nominated by Adrienne Kuchick, IPS Executive Director of Schools. Peterkin is recognized for her whole-child approach and her efforts to create community partnerships that provide students with resources, support literacy, and remove barriers to learning and attendance. “She has cultivated a culture of trust, making Daniel Webster a true haven for families,” Kuchick said. “As a hands-on leader, she empowers her staff, supports students in classrooms, and advocates for every child, emphasizing inclusion and equity.” Peterkin has led Daniel Webster School 46 since July 2018 and previously served as an IPS Literacy Coordinator and Classroom Teacher. She also worked at Imagine Schools in curriculum and teaching roles. She holds degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Ball State University.
