Paralympian Evan Austin To Present At Ivy Tech Community College's Disability Awareness Month Celebration
Evan Austin, a Paralympian gold medalist in swimming, will be the keynote speaker at Ivy Tech Community College's Disability Awareness Month celebration. Austin will present "The Wait of Gold: Sacrifice, Failure, and Resilience in the Lifelong Pursuit of Excellence.” Austin’s story is about achieving greatness, establishing long-term goals, developing habits, and perseverance.
The keynote program will take place on March 23 at Noon at Ivy Tech Terre Haute’s Oakley Auditorium. The event is FREE to attend and open to the public.
"Disability Awareness Month is an opportunity for us to shine a light on the incredible talents and abilities of people with disabilities. Through awareness, we have the opportunity to challenge the stereotypes and misconceptions about people with disabilities and to create a more accessible world,” said Jaime Frey, Ivy Tech’s director of disability services. “We're excited to have Paralympian Evan Austin join us for Disability Awareness Month. Evan's achievements in his sport are impressive and inspiring, but we're also grateful for his voice as an advocate for equity and inclusion.”
The program is intended to celebrate Disability Awareness Month, raise awareness about the barriers individuals with disabilities can face, and to acknowledge the many ways individuals with and without disabilities come together to create strong, diverse communities.
