@ButlerUWBB Defeats Southern Indiana 58-48

The Butler women's basketball program collected their fifth win of the season with a 58-48 victory over visiting Southern Indiana on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs limited the Screaming Eagles to just 24 second half points to come out on top.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs got off to a rocky start by committing four turnovers on their first four possessions. Kelsy Taylor checked into the game to deliver the first points of the night for BU and Rachel McLimore followed with a 3-pointer to give Butler their first lead at 5-4. The Screaming Eagles used eight Bulldog turnovers to create seven points that led to their 9-7 lead after the first quarter.

Butler opened the second quarter on a 6-2 scoring run to grab a 13-11 lead. Anna Mortag and Sydney Jaynes each scored three points during that stretch. Five different 'Dawgs had at least three points at the second quarter media timeout to give Butler an 18-15 edge over Southern Indiana with 4:55 on the game clock.

Butler's defense picked up over the final five minutes of the second quarter and a 6-0 BU run would force the Eagles into a 30-second timeout. The seven-point BU lead grew to as much as 10, but would be cut down to just three at the half 27-24.

Butler scored the first five points of the second half, but the Eagles matched them with the next five causing a Bulldog timeout. After the stoppage, Butler would get back-to-back 3-pointers from Jordan Meulemans and Shay Frederick to push the lead up to nine. After three full quarters the Bulldogs would take a 42-35 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The game tightened up in the opening stages of the fourth quarter when Southern Indiana outscored Butler 9-2 to tie the game at 44-44.

Frederick broke the tie with a 3-pointer from the right wing and Tenley Dowell doubled the lead with a triple from the top of the key. Southern Indiana burned a timeout after the shots from behind the arc and the Bulldogs would stay in control the rest of the way to win 58-48.
