Four @ButlerMSoccer Players Earn All-East Region Honors from United Soccer Coaches

A quartet of Butler men's soccer players were named to one of the All-East Region teams as announced by the United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday. Freshman Palmer Ault was a first team selection, and graduate student Jack Haywood made the second team. A pair of seniors, Perrin Barnes and Wilmer Cabrera, Jr., landed on the third team.

With four selections this season, Butler now has twelve honorees in the past six seasons, and this marks the 23rd season overall in which Butler has produced at least one region representative.

Ault, from Noblesville, Ind., ranks fifth nationally and sits atop the BIG EAST with 5 game-winning goals. He is second in the conference (23rd nationally) with 10 goals and third (20th) with 26 points. The forward's 6 assists are fifth, and his shot accuracy of .442 ranks eighth in the conference. Ault was recently selected as the 2022 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and was also named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.

Haywood, from Nottingham, England, played the role of captain for the Bulldogs this season. From his center-midfielder position, he notched one goal and tallied three assists. He was recently named to the 2022 All-BIG EAST Second Team, his third postseason conference honor.

Barnes, from Aurora, Ill., started all 19 matches for Butler this season in the defensive line. He scored the game-winning goal against Oakland and dished out an assist in a draw with Xavier.

Cabrera, Jr., from Bogota, Colombia, has now earned his third career all-region nod. He started all 18 matches in which he appeared this season, both as a forward and in the midfield. He totaled six goals and added an additional four assists, finishing third on the team in both categories. Cabrera, Jr. led the BIG EAST and was 31st nationally with 3.06 shots per game and ranked fourth in the conference with 1.28 shots on goal per game.
