Two students from Broad Ripple Middle School achieved notable results at the recent Apex Benefits Monumental Kids 5K, which was presented by Indiana University Indianapolis. The event, held in downtown Indianapolis, included 1,047 runners from across Marion County.

Benson Lippert, an eighth-grade student at Broad Ripple, finished first overall with a time of 19 minutes and 13 seconds. Helena Jarzen, a seventh-grade student at the school, took first place among female runners with a time of 22 minutes and 25 seconds.

The Monumental Kids Movement program includes six weeks of training that combines running with lessons on health and wellness. The curriculum encourages students to focus on fitness, nutrition, and perseverance as part of their preparation for the race.

Participants began the race downtown and completed the 3.1-mile course inside Lucas Oil Stadium by crossing the 50-yard line. After the run, students and their families attended a Wellness Expo where community partners provided information about healthy living.

Broad Ripple Principal Jeremy Baugh commented on his school's achievements: "With strong performances from Lippert, Jarzen, and the rest of Broad Ripple’s cross-country team, the school continues to build momentum in what has already been an impressive season."
