State Representative Alex Zimmerman has advanced a bill that would enable fire protection districts in Indiana to offer emergency medical services (EMS). The bill, which passed the House, seeks to expand the role of these districts beyond their current mandate of providing fire protection and prevention.

Zimmerman explained that while fire protection districts are established by local governments to enhance community safety through fire-related services, there is an increasing need for them to also provide EMS. "Fire protection districts are vital to Indiana's safety, and this bill allows them to expand services to help more Hoosiers," Zimmerman stated. He emphasized that integrating EMS into these districts could improve local emergency coverage and enhance community safety.

The proposed legislation, known as House Bill 1113, will now proceed to the Senate for further evaluation. Interested parties can learn more about the bill and follow its progress at iga.in.gov.
