U.S. Senator Todd Young, along with 29 Senate Republican colleagues, has called on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to rescind certain firearms regulations implemented during the Biden Administration. These include rules related to being "Engaged in the Business," pistol braces, "ghost guns," and a "zero tolerance" policy. The senators are urging alignment with former President Trump's recent Executive Order aimed at protecting Second Amendment rights.
The letter addressed to Marvin G. Richardson, Deputy Director of ATF, highlights concerns over policies adopted under former President Joe Biden that allegedly infringe on Second Amendment protections. It calls for collaboration with Attorney General Pam Bondi to identify and repeal these regulations promptly.
“On Friday, February 7, 2025, President Donald J. Trump took decisive action to reaffirm law-abiding Americans’ Second Amendment rights in issuing his Executive Order, Protecting Second Amendment Rights. We urge you to immediately align ATF’s rules and policies with the President’s strong support for the Second Amendment,” stated the senators.
The letter also advocates for destroying outdated firearm transaction records held by ATF that are over 20 years old. This move is seen as a way to protect sensitive information of gun owners and reduce unnecessary taxpayer expenses.
Additionally, the senators emphasize improving processes for National Firearms Act applications as instructed by Congress. They argue that delays in processing times should be minimized to ensure efficiency comparable to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
The letter concludes by expressing readiness to work with ATF during this transition period towards implementing President Trump's agenda on Second Amendment rights protection.
