Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated $102,000 to Newberry for road and bridge projects. State Representative Bruce Borders (R-Jasonville) announced the funding, which is part of a broader initiative providing over $200 million in state matching grants to 245 communities across Indiana this year.

The program aims to support local infrastructure by funding road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements. "Strong infrastructure is the foundation of strong communities," said Borders. "These grants will help improve the roads Hoosiers rely on daily, making travel safer and supporting local businesses and residents."

Consumer Affairs recently ranked Indiana as the top state for overall road conditions, highlighting its low traffic fatality rate and quality roads. To qualify for these funds, smaller municipalities must match 25 percent with local funds, while larger communities need a 50 percent match. The program mandates that half of the available matching funds be distributed annually to communities in counties with populations of 50,000 or less.

Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to enhance local roads and bridges. More information about grant recipients can be found at in.gov/indot/communitycrossings.
