State Rep. Tim O'Brien from Evansville recently convened a meeting with legislators from Indiana and Kentucky, as well as local leaders, to discuss the progress of the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project. This initiative involves the construction of a bridge connecting Evansville, Indiana to Henderson, Kentucky. The meeting aimed to align efforts and review advancements in this significant infrastructure project.
The Indiana Department of Transportation and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are collaborating on this bi-state endeavor. Construction has already commenced in Evansville to ensure access to the Ohio River during all weather conditions, with work on the bridge expected to start in 2027.
"I appreciated the opportunity to convene legislators, leaders and stakeholders from southwest Indiana and western Kentucky to review where we stand, identify upcoming endeavors and ensure our goals are unified in the expansion of I-69," stated O'Brien. He emphasized that "the I-69 Ohio River Crossing is more than just a bridge. It's a vital link between our communities, economies and futures."
The meeting was attended by various legislators from southwest Indiana and western Kentucky alongside local officials who discussed potential economic benefits and tourism growth resulting from the crossing.
O'Brien plans to use insights from these discussions to collaborate further with community leaders ensuring timely progress of the construction schedule for the I-69 Ohio River Crossing.
