Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated over $1.6 million in state funding to local communities for road and bridge projects, as announced by State Representatives Bruce Borders (R-Jasonville) and Matt Hostettler (R-Patoka).
The program supports road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements, and other infrastructure projects. This year, 245 communities across Indiana will receive more than $200 million in state matching grants.
"Strong infrastructure is the foundation of strong communities," said Borders. "These grants will help improve the roads Hoosiers rely on daily, making travel safer and supporting local businesses and residents."
Indiana was recently recognized as having the best overall road conditions in the nation by ConsumerAffairs due to its low rate of traffic fatalities and high-quality roads.
Local grant recipients include Knox County with $1.5 million, Oaktown receiving $82,201, and Wheatland awarded $74,999.
Hostettler explained that smaller municipalities need to provide a 25 percent match in local funds to qualify for funding while larger communities must contribute a 50 percent match. The program mandates that half of the available matching funds be annually distributed to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or less. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed over $2 billion for local road and bridge improvements.
"We all benefit from strong and reliable infrastructure throughout Indiana communities," Hostettler stated. "These grants make it possible to improve traffic flow and ensure our roads are safe for everyone, from families commuting to delivery trucks keeping businesses running smoothly."
