Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has allocated $749,799 to Vigo County for local road and bridge projects. This announcement was made by the county's legislators.
"Maintaining and improving our roads is critical to the safety and success of our local counties and cities," stated State Representative Tim Yocum (R-Clinton). "These grants provide strong foundations for making lasting improvements that benefit all Hoosiers."
The program aims to support communities with funding for various infrastructure projects such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements. In 2025, a total of 245 Indiana communities will receive over $200 million in state matching grants.
State Representative Bruce Borders (R-Jasonville) emphasized the importance of infrastructure: "Strong infrastructure is the foundation of strong communities. These grants will help improve the roads Hoosiers rely on daily, making travel safer and supporting local businesses and residents."
Indiana recently received recognition from Consumer Affairs as the top state in the nation for overall road conditions due to its low rate of traffic fatalities and high-quality roads.
According to State Representative Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute), smaller municipalities must match 25 percent of the funds locally, while larger communities need a 50 percent match. Additionally, half of the available matching funds are designated annually for counties with populations under 50,000. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to enhance local roads and bridges.
"These grants provide an opportunity for our local governments to address critical infrastructure needs," said Heaton. "Whether it's repaving roads or improving bridges, this investment will strengthen our communities and better serve Hoosiers."
