Quincy's Walker Named Rawlings/ABCA Gold Glove Pitcher of the Year
The American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings Sport announced their Gold Glove recipients on Wednesday (June 22).
This award was founded in 2007. The Gold Glove Awards are presented annually by Rawlings and selected by the ABCA.
These prestigious awards are chosen by the ABCA All-America Committee for each Division.
Quincy University Right-Handed Pitcher Spencer Walker has been Gold Glove Pitcher of the Year.
"He's a guy that takes pride in everything he does - especially PFP's (pitcher fielding practice).
Usually Thursdays are bunt / PFP day for team defense and Spencer is the guy who sets the tone," said head coach Matt Schissel.
"He's upbeat, and flying around the infield and it shows up in games. I think PFP days are his favorite day of the week without a doubt.
This is a huge accomplishment for Spencer and I know he's very excited for it."
Walker started in 15 games, compiling a 10-1 record with a 3.32 ERA. He struck out 85 hitters in 100.1 IP.
While fielding his position, he was a perfect 28 of 28 on balls hit his way.
The Mapleton, Illinois native also caught four potential base stealers.
