Chairman Rick Scott and Ranking Member Kirsten Gillibrand of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging have scheduled a hearing to examine how competition and price transparency could reduce health care costs. The session, titled “Modernizing Health Care: How Shoppable Services Improve Outcomes and Lower Costs,” is set for Wednesday, October 22, at 3:30 PM in the Hart Senate Office Building.
The hearing will focus on the potential benefits of shoppable health care services and greater price transparency for consumers. Witnesses are expected to address innovative models that provide higher value at lower prices. The discussion will also consider current barriers to transparency, such as the absence of upfront pricing information, and explore how addressing these challenges could give patients more control and improve efficiency across the health care system.
The list of witnesses includes Mark Cuban, Co-Founder of Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs Company; Dr. G. Keith Smith, Co-Founder of Surgery Center of Oklahoma and the Free Market Medical Association; Dr. Don Moulds, Chief Health Director at CalPERS; and Dr. Jeanne Lambrew, Director of Health Care Reform and Senior Fellow at The Century Foundation.
A live broadcast of the hearing will be available online.
