U.S. Senator Todd Young, alongside several Senate Republican colleagues, has addressed a letter to President Donald Trump concerning the ongoing negotiations with Iran. The group urges the administration to secure an agreement that ensures the complete dismantlement of Iran's nuclear program, emphasizing the need for the regime to permanently cease uranium enrichment activities.

The letter states: "We write to express our strong support for your efforts to secure a deal with Iran that dismantles its nuclear program, and to reinforce the explicit warnings that you and officials in your administration have issued that the regime must permanently give up any capacity for enrichment."

The senators express their concern over past agreements like the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which they believe allowed Iran to continue its nuclear activities. They emphasize that such agreements should not be repeated: "We cannot afford another agreement that enables Iran to play for time, as the JCPOA did."

The letter also highlights changes made by the Biden administration, which they argue have weakened pressure on Iran and enabled it to advance its nuclear ambitions. According to them, these actions included rescinding sanctions and allowing oil sales at levels seen during the JCPOA.

They cite a report from February 26 by the International Atomic Energy Agency indicating difficulties in verifying Iran's nuclear activities due to recent developments: "The Agency has lost continuity of knowledge in relation to the production and current inventory of centrifuges, rotors and bellows, heavy water and UOC, which it will not be possible to restore."

President Trump's stance is supported by his National Security Presidential Memorandum on Iran, which identifies Iran’s nuclear capabilities as a significant threat. Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff has reiterated this position, stating that any successful negotiation must see "Iran stop and eliminate its nuclear enrichment and weaponization program."

Senator Young is joined by Senators Pete Ricketts, Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, John Thune, Jim Risch among others in signing this letter. They assure President Trump of their readiness to support him in advancing American national security interests.
