Local communities in Indiana are set to benefit from state funding aimed at enhancing road and bridge infrastructure. State Representative Matt Lehman announced that funding is now available through Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program. This program supports projects such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements.
A total of 223 communities will receive over $139 million in state matching grants. "The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program allows us to address our current infrastructure needs while looking ahead and planning for the future," said Lehman. He emphasized the importance of ongoing road updates for safety and attracting businesses and residents.
Several areas have been named grant recipients, including Adams County with $347,617; Berne with $1.4 million; Geneva receiving $308,771; and Monroe allocated $209,055.
To be eligible for these competitive grants, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent local fund match, whereas larger communities are required to match 50 percent. The law mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities in counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has awarded more than $1.8 billion for local infrastructure improvements.
Further details about the program can be found on the Indiana Department of Transportation website under "Community Crossings Matching Grant."
