The Student Council at T.C. Howe Middle School is conducting a Thanksgiving food drive until December 18 to assist local families during the holiday season. This initiative reflects the school's dedication to social responsibility, according to Thomika Gouard-West, the school nurse.

"Just thinking about the kids who need food inspired the students to start this food drive," she said. "It helps kids, adults, and families in need."

The students aim to support families while promoting values like compassion and service taught at T.C. Howe. Donations will be packed and distributed carefully to ensure they reach those in need, highlighting the importance of community collaboration.

T.C. Howe Middle School is part of Indianapolis Public Schools and serves grades 6 through 8. It has recently become an International Baccalaureate (IB) World Middle School, focusing on rigorous learning that fosters global awareness and critical thinking.

The school is also undergoing renovations funded by the 2023 IPS Rebuilding Stronger Capital Referendum, which provided $410 million for district schools' improvements. Upgrades include enhanced security, modernized athletic facilities, and a new VOIP communication system.

Community members can contribute to the food drive by donating canned goods or non-perishable items to support the students' mission for a brighter holiday for local families. The school's main office will accept donations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
