Terre Haute is set to benefit from $1.5 million in state funding for road and bridge projects, as announced by State Representative Bob Heaton. The funds are part of Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which supports infrastructure improvements such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection enhancements.

The program will distribute over $139 million in matching grants to 223 communities across the state. "These grants support the safety and longevity of the roads and bridges Hoosiers rely on every day," stated Heaton, who serves on the House Ways and Means Committee. "By partnering with the state, communities are able to complete much-needed infrastructure improvements, setting up our area and Indiana for long-term success."

Eligibility for these competitive grants requires smaller municipalities to provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must contribute a 50 percent match. According to state law, half of the available matching funds are allocated annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has awarded more than $1.8 billion for local road and bridge enhancements.
