Local communities in Indiana are set to benefit from state funding aimed at improving road and bridge infrastructure. State Representative Bruce Borders announced that the funding comes from Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which supports projects such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements.

The program will distribute over $139 million in state matching grants to 223 communities across the state. "These grants aren't just an investment in roads and bridges, they're an investment in the safety and mobility of our communities," said Borders. "I'm excited to see how this funding will help tackle important local projects, ensuring a smoother and safer drive for all."

Among the recipients are Bloomfield with $315,217, Greene County receiving $1.5 million, and Jasonville allocated $166,522.

To qualify for these competitive grants, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds while larger communities need to provide a 50 percent match. State law mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has awarded more than $1.8 billion for local road and bridge improvements.

Further information about the program can be found by visiting Indiana's Department of Transportation website.
