State Representatives David Abbott and Craig Snow have announced that local communities in Indiana will soon benefit from increased road and bridge projects, thanks to newly released state funding. This funding is part of Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which supports road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements, and other infrastructure projects.
A total of 223 communities across the state are set to receive over $139 million in state matching grants. "Ensuring that our transportation routes are able to be maintained and upgraded will allow for future growth," said Abbott. He emphasized the importance of these grants for smaller communities to effectively address their infrastructure needs.
The grant recipients in the area include Kosciusko County with $1.2 million, Milford receiving $215,403, Pierceton with $126,246, Sidney getting $33,660, Warsaw awarded $493,510, and Winona Lake receiving $302,329.
Snow commented on the impact of the program: "Hoosiers are seeing continuous improvement to our roadways due in part to the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program." He highlighted the collaboration between local communities and the state in enhancing infrastructure quality.
To qualify for this competitive grant program, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds while larger communities need a 50 percent match. State law mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has allocated more than $1.8 billion for local road and bridge improvements.
