State Representatives Cory Criswell and Lindsay Patterson have announced that local communities in Indiana will soon benefit from increased road and bridge projects due to newly released state funding. This funding is part of Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which supports road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements, and other infrastructure projects.
The program will distribute over $139 million in state matching grants to 223 communities across the state. Representative Criswell stated, "The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program helps cities, towns and counties maintain their infrastructure so Hoosiers and others can travel safely and efficiently." He expressed satisfaction that the state could fund projects that address community needs.
Rush County is set to receive $1 million, while Rushville will be granted $719,250. Representative Patterson highlighted the long-term benefits of these grants for roadway projects, saying, "This funding represents Indiana's commitment to Hoosier families, businesses and visitors who rely on our roads."
To participate in the grant program, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds. Larger communities are required to provide a 50 percent match. State law mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has allocated more than $1.8 billion for local road and bridge improvements.
