Indiana high school seniors and college students interested in becoming teachers can now apply for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship. The program, established in 2016 by the Indiana General Assembly, offers recipients $10,000 per year for up to four years if they commit to teaching in Indiana for at least five years.
"Indiana needs passionate, dedicated teachers and this scholarship helps ensure we have them," said State Rep. Tim Yocum (R-Clinton). "It's an investment in our schools, communities and kids."
The scholarship is open to students who have graduated or will graduate from an Indiana accredited high school or a non-accredited nonpublic high school. Applicants must either rank in the top 20% of their graduating class, have a top 20% ACT or SAT score, or maintain at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
The application for the 2026-2027 academic year is available at scholartrack.che.in.gov until January 31. Applicants will be notified of their status by April 2026. Questions can be directed to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education at NextTeacher@che.in.gov.
In 2023, legislation increased the annual scholarship amount from $7,500 to $10,000 and removed the previous limit of 200 recipients per year. In the most recent application cycle, more than 1,000 students applied—a record number—and nearly 300 scholarships were awarded.
