Congressman Jefferson Shreve, who represents Indiana’s 5th Congressional District, recently shared updates on his official X account regarding his actions during the government shutdown and an upcoming sporting event in Indianapolis.

On October 3, 2025, Shreve announced his decision to forgo his congressional salary during the ongoing government shutdown. In a post, he stated: “I’m refusing my congressional pay during the shutdown and donating it to the Johnson County Boys & Girls Club, which has served local kids for more than 80 years. My focus is on responsible solutions and serving Hoosiers — even during tough moments in Washington.”

Two days later, on October 5, 2025, Shreve posted a message celebrating a major sports event scheduled for Indianapolis: “ The 2028 NCAA Women’s Final Four is coming to Indianapolis! We’re thrilled to host this major event at Lucas Oil Stadium. There’s no better place for basketball than Indiana! ” He also shared a link in a separate post on the same day: https://t.co/JJxBSuMgcL

The Johnson County Boys & Girls Club, recipient of Shreve’s donated salary during the shutdown, has provided services to children in the local community for over eight decades. The announcement regarding the NCAA Women’s Final Four highlights Indiana's reputation as a basketball hub and underscores Lucas Oil Stadium’s capacity to host significant national events.

Shreve’s statements reflect ongoing efforts by some members of Congress to address public concerns about compensation during periods when federal operations are disrupted due to budget impasses. The selection of Indianapolis as host city for the 2028 NCAA Women’s Final Four further cements its role as a center for major collegiate athletic competitions.
