André Carson, U.S. Congressman representing Indiana’s 7th district since 2008, recently addressed issues of redistricting and the looming threat of a government shutdown in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter). Carson’s comments highlighted concerns about early redistricting efforts in Indiana and partisan gridlock in Congress.

On September 24, 2025, Carson shared an explainer from Mirror Indy about the concept of redistricting, writing: "What is redistricting? What does it mean? @mirrorindy breaks it down: https://t.co/jFFBqSSjnK". In a follow-up post the same day, he criticized recent moves to alter district boundaries ahead of schedule: "Redistricting 5 years early impacts every Hoosier – regardless of who you vote for. It’s a calculated, intentional effort to make your vote count less. https://t.co/PQpL3R8Mu8".

The next day, Carson turned his attention to national politics. On September 25, he commented on stalled negotiations over federal funding: "Donald Trump and Republicans are refusing to even meet with Democrats to prevent a government shutdown.

Democrats are ready to find a solution that keeps government open and lowers healthcare costs.

The ball is in Republicans’ court."

Carson has represented Indiana's 7th congressional district since succeeding Julia Carson in 2008. Before joining Congress, he served on the Indianapolis City-County Council from 2007 to 2008. Born and raised in Indianapolis, Carson graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin with a bachelor's degree in 2003.
