The Brown County School Corporation has received $35,265 in state funding for safety improvements through Indiana's Secured School Safety Grant Program. State Representative Dave Hall (R-Norman) supported the initiative, which is part of a broader effort by the state legislature to enhance school safety.

This year, Indiana allocated $27 million in matching grants to 494 schools across the state. Lawmakers also passed legislation moving the Office of School Safety under the Department of Homeland Security. This change aims to centralize school safety efforts and provide more resources and support to schools.

"Every student deserves to feel safe in their classroom," Hall said. "These grants help provide the tools and resources our schools need to stay prepared and protect Hoosier kids."

According to Hall, schools can use these funds for various needs, including resource officers, equipment and technology upgrades, active event warning systems, threat assessments, and student-parent support service programs.

Since its inception in 2013, Indiana's Secured School Safety Grant Program has provided over $214 million in matching grants for school safety initiatives. More information about the program is available at https://www.in.gov/schoolsafety.
