André Carson, U.S. Congressman representing Indiana’s 7th district since 2008, addressed a range of issues in a series of tweets posted on September 10 and 11, 2025.
On September 10, Carson commented on redistricting practices, stating: "The strategy is clear. The racism is undeniable: target majority-minority districts, and then eliminate them."
Later that day, Carson condemned political violence following the deaths of several public figures. He wrote: "Political violence is never ok and must be stopped. In June, Minnesota Democratic lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, lost their lives, and now Charlie Kirk lost his.
My condolences are with Charlie’s family, especially his young children." This message referenced the recent deaths of Minnesota Democratic lawmaker Melissa Hortman and conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
On September 11, Carson commemorated the anniversary of the September 11 attacks. He stated: "Today, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the heroes of that day, and those who are still mourning loved ones. We will never forget."
Carson has served in Congress for Indiana's 7th District since succeeding Julia Carson in 2008 and previously held office on the Indianapolis City-County Council from 2007 to 2008. Born in Indianapolis in 1974 and a graduate of Concordia University Wisconsin with a BA earned in 2003, Carson continues to reside in his hometown as he represents his district.
