Governor Mike Braun has held a ceremonial signing for legislation co-sponsored by State Representative Cindy Ledbetter (R-Newburgh) that criminalizes the sale, possession, and use of signal jamming devices in Indiana.

Signal jamming devices are already illegal under both state and federal law. These devices can block electronic communications systems, posing risks to public safety by preventing emergency calls and disrupting communication among first responders. According to Rep. Ledbetter, "This new law helps protect our law enforcement officers by ensuring this technology doesn't prevent them from using their electronic communications tools." She added, "A critical part of our job at the General Assembly is updating state laws to encompass any threat posed by new technologies. Remaining vigilant empowers public safety officials to keep our communities safe."

The new law increases penalties for those who use signal jammers to interfere with the communications of public safety agencies. It also includes provisions aimed at protecting critical infrastructure such as wires and equipment used for providing communication services.

SEA 26 was passed with bipartisan support during the 2025 legislative session.
