The Meyer Farm in Franklin County has been recognized with Hoosier Homestead Centennial and Sesquicentennial awards for its continuous operation since 1863. State Rep. Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville) and State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) announced the recognition.

"Hoosier Homestead awardees are a great example of the dedication it takes to keep a family farm going year after year," Patterson said. "This recognition is a tribute to our rural communities. I’m proud to see families in our district honored for their impact on Indiana agriculture."

The Hoosier Homestead program recognizes farms that have remained under the same family's ownership for at least 100, 150, or 200 years, with centennial, sesquicentennial, or bicentennial awards respectively.

"Indiana is the ninth largest farming state in the nation, and long-time farm families like Meyers have helped make us one of the top agricultural producers," Leising said. "I appreciate their tireless work and commitment over many generations to our community and state."

The Meyer family was among 95 recipients who were honored during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair. The Hoosier Homestead ceremonies take place each spring and summer. Since its creation in 1976, more than 6,000 farms have been recognized for their role in Indiana’s economy and culture.
