State Representative Tim O'Brien (R-Evansville) has received the Boys & Girls Club of Indiana Legislative Champion Award. The recognition comes as a result of O'Brien's work in supporting children, education, and afterschool programs.
Andrew Backes, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Evansville, cited O'Brien's advocacy for these areas as the reason for the award. Indiana’s latest two-year budget increased K-12 funding by $640 million, representing a 5% rise and setting a new high for school funding in the state. Nearly half of Indiana’s state budget is now allocated to K-12 education. O'Brien currently serves as chair of the House Ways & Means K-12 Subcommittee.
"I am always proud to support the next generation of Hoosiers and help ensure they can achieve success," said O'Brien. "The Boys & Girls Club of Evansville does incredibly meaningful work for our community, and I'm honored to receive this award."
Backes expressed gratitude for O'Brien's support on issues important to his organization and acknowledged his efforts to improve opportunities for young people in Indiana.
"As a legislative champion for student success, Rep. O’Brien has demonstrated a deep commitment to creating opportunities that empower young people to reach their full potential," Backes said. "His leadership and partnership have helped advance policies that prioritize education, afterschool programming and the overall well-being of our state’s children."
O'Brien stated that advocating for children's advancement will remain one of his main legislative priorities.
