After receiving complaints from residents in central Indiana about delays in mail delivery, Congressman Jefferson Shreve (R-IN) has focused efforts on addressing issues at the United States Postal Service (USPS) distribution hub in Indianapolis. According to Shreve, these efforts have resulted in a 21% improvement in service.
Shreve led a letter from Indiana’s Congressional delegation urging the Postmaster General to take action. He also visited the Indianapolis sorting facility to observe operations firsthand and maintained communication with USPS officials regarding ongoing delivery problems that began after the hub opened last year. During his tour, postal leaders acknowledged that shortcomings in planning and implementation contributed to the issues at the facility.
In December of last year, on-time mail service performance at the Indianapolis hub was reported at 72%. The USPS now reports that this figure has increased to 93%. Shreve’s office continues to assist constituents with recovering packages and tracking lost items.
"Since taking office, way too many constituents expressed frustration with delays at the USPS distribution hub in Indy. I led Indiana’s Congressional delegation to get answers. There are good people at our Postal Service, but the planning for this huge distribution hub was lousy — and it’s been costly. We are making progress. And I’ll keep my foot on the gas to continue delivering results,” said Rep. Shreve.
