State Representatives Cory Criswell and Lindsay Patterson are drawing attention to several new state laws that took effect this summer following the conclusion of Indiana's 2025 legislative session in April.

Criswell noted that many laws, including a new state budget, became effective on July 1. The budget is balanced, preserves Indiana’s AAA credit rating, continues state income tax cuts, and increases funding for K-12 education. It also expands school choice for all families starting next year and boosts funding for public safety and housing access to support growing communities.

"These new laws reflect the strong partnerships and thoughtful planning behind every policy decision," Criswell said. "From economic development to education and health care, we focused on making improvements that will positively impact Hoosiers and their everyday lives."

Patterson highlighted legislation aimed at protecting women's sports. House Enrolled Act 1041 prevents biological males from competing in female categories at the collegiate level, building on previous efforts to protect girls’ K-12 sports.

"No matter the issue, whether it’s public safety, economic growth or supporting families, our focus remains on doing what’s best for Hoosiers," Patterson said. "These new laws reflect the commitment of putting our constituents first."

Other notable measures include changes designed to expand child care access by streamlining licensure requirements for multi-site centers and allowing school-based programs to serve children from across entire school corporations. In addition, Indiana is centralizing its school safety efforts by moving the Office of School Safety under the Department of Homeland Security. A new School Safety Board will be established to provide additional guidance related to school safety.
