State Rep. Tim Yocum (R-Clinton) is drawing attention to several new Indiana state laws that took effect this summer, following the conclusion of the 2025 legislative session in April.
Among the new measures is a law aimed at safeguarding taxpayers. According to Yocum, Indiana’s budget remains balanced, maintains the state’s AAA credit rating, and continues income tax cuts for residents. The budget also increases funding for K-12 schools and will expand school choice to all families next year. Funding for public safety and housing access has been boosted to support growing communities.
"Our latest budget reflects strong, conservative leadership," Yocum said. "We're cutting taxes, investing in our schools and public safety, and keeping Indiana's finances on solid ground."
Lawmakers addressed a range of issues affecting residents this year, including protections for women's sports. House Enrolled Act 1041 aims to ensure fairness in collegiate athletics by preventing biological males from competing in female categories at the college level. This law builds on previous efforts to protect girls' K-12 sports.
Yocum also highlighted property tax relief initiatives. Through a mix of credits and reforms, homeowners are expected to save $1.3 billion over three years. Most homeowners should see lower bills in 2026 compared to 2025, with additional savings projected for fixed-income seniors, farmers, and small businesses.
Another new law focuses on strengthening parental rights by limiting government interference in decisions regarding children’s upbringing, religious instruction, education, or health care unless necessary.
