André Carson, U.S. Congressman representing Indiana’s 7th district since 2008, has recently used his social media platform to address issues ranging from aviation safety and public media funding to the use of Camp Atterbury for ICE detainment.

On July 16, Carson posted about a legislative requirement he authored concerning aircraft safety: "I authored a requirement for secondary cockpit barriers on new aircraft — but @USDOT hasn’t implemented these requirements yet. I pressed @SecDuffy  on what's taking so long. I’ll be following up to make sure these post-9/11 safety requirements are implemented. It's past time."

A day later, on July 17, Carson addressed proposed federal budget cuts affecting public broadcasting: "Public media saves lives, educates our kids, and keeps local journalism alive. Senate Republicans voted to drastically slash its funding. I oppose these reckless cuts. Our communities can’t afford to be left in the dark."

On July 18, Carson commented on plans for Camp Atterbury in Indiana: "Camp Atterbury in Indiana will be used for ICE detainment. ICE is ripping families apart for offenses as minor as traffic tickets, and others are detained without having committed any crime at all. Read my full statement:"

Carson's statements come amid ongoing debates about transportation security measures after September 11 attacks and concerns over delays in implementation by federal agencies such as the Department of Transportation.

The congressman has also expressed opposition to reductions in public media funding by Senate Republicans, highlighting the role of such outlets in community education and journalism.

Regarding immigration enforcement, Carson criticized U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) practices at Camp Atterbury—an Indiana facility designated for detention purposes—pointing out instances where individuals have been detained over minor infractions or with no criminal record.

André Carson was born in Indianapolis in 1974 and currently resides there; he earned a Bachelor’s degree from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2003 and previously served on the Indianapolis City-County Council before joining Congress.
