Megan Alexander and Aundrea Berkemeier, students at Rushville Consolidated High School, have been named recipients of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship. This announcement was made by State Representatives Cory Criswell (R-Middletown) and Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville).

The scholarship program was established in 2016 by the Indiana General Assembly. It offers a renewable scholarship of up to $10,000 per year, with a maximum of $40,000. This is available to high-achieving high school and college students who commit to teaching in an eligible Indiana school for five years. For the 2025-2026 academic year, a record-breaking 1,091 students applied, with nearly 300 scholarships awarded.

"I strongly believe these young educators will make a positive impact in Indiana classrooms," said Criswell. "The support from this scholarship helps remove some of the financial pressures students may face, allowing them to focus on their studies and career."

Patterson explained that to qualify for the scholarship, students must graduate in the top 20 percent of their class or earn a score in the 20th percentile on standardized tests like the SAT or ACT. Alternatively, they must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

“I’m encouraged to see local students stepping up to teach the next generation and receive this support for their journey as future educators,” said Patterson. "This scholarship recognizes their commitment to teaching and will help them financially so they can stay focused as they prepare for a career in the classroom.”
