Gov. Mike Braun has ceremonially signed two bills authored by State Representative Lori Goss-Reaves, aiming to improve access to dental care, telehealth services, and over-the-counter hearing aids for Indiana residents.

House Enrolled Act 1031 seeks to modernize the practice of dentistry in Indiana. The law restructures the State Board of Dentistry, reduces bureaucratic hurdles, and streamlines the licensure process for qualified dentists from other states and Canadian provinces. This change is intended to make Indiana more attractive to top-tier dental professionals.

“This law helps remove unnecessary regulatory barriers and encourages more dental providers to practice in Indiana,” said Goss-Reaves. “Giving dental professionals more flexibility ensures more Hoosiers can receive the care they need in a timely and safe way.”

The legislation also allows dentists to remotely supervise dental assistants performing radiographs within correctional facilities. This measure aims to alleviate pressure on dentists who may not be available at multiple sites.

House Enrolled Act 1572 focuses on expanding telehealth services and access to over-the-counter hearing aids. According to Goss-Reaves, over 200 additional providers are now eligible under this updated law. The act also permits Hoosiers to purchase hearing aids without needing them sold by a licensed audiologist or dealer, with prices starting as low as $200 compared to prescription models that range from $1,000 to $4,000.

“Expanding telehealth services and reducing barriers to hearing aids will improve access to care for many Hoosiers,” stated Goss-Reaves. “Allowing over-the-counter purchase of hearing aids will permit Hoosiers to obtain this life-changing technology at a fraction of the cost and without unnecessary red tape."

Both pieces of legislation received bipartisan support in the General Assembly before becoming law.
