Local student Lleyton White from Riley High School has been named a recipient of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, as announced by State Representative Jake Teshka. This scholarship program, initiated in 2016 by the Indiana General Assembly, offers up to $10,000 annually, with a maximum total of $40,000. It is awarded to high-achieving students who commit to teaching in an eligible Indiana school for five years.

This year saw a record 1,091 applications for the 2025-2026 academic year, with nearly 300 scholarships granted. Teshka emphasized the importance of this initiative: "The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship is an investment in our future teachers who will shape countless students," he said. "This scholarship can set them up for success in college as well as when they start leading a classroom of their own, encouraging them to build their career here in our state."

Eligibility criteria for the scholarship include graduating in the top 20 percent of one's high school class or achieving at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
