Looking for a reason to unplug and step outside this summer? Indiana offers some of the most scenic and accessible outdoor spaces in the Midwest. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources provides resources for residents to explore their state, including campsite reservations, fishing licenses, and information on parks and forests.

A key resource is the Indiana Recreation Guide, a free statewide tool with information on planning outdoor experiences. It includes details on state parks, forests, reservoirs, fish and wildlife areas, as well as activities like camping, hiking, fishing, biking, boating, and wildlife viewing. It also covers seasonal events and provides park maps, hours, fees, permit information, safety tips, and rules for outdoor recreation.

Additionally, the DNR offers a free mobile app for iPhone and Android devices that provides updates, maps, and safety alerts.

Local options include Summit Lake State Park and Wilbur Wright Fish and Wildlife Area in Henry County for activities such as boating and camping. Shelby County's website lists various activities maintained by the city's parks department including parks and walking trails.
