For the past four years, Brian Giacobbe has been leading the JROTC program at Arsenal Technical High School. On Wednesday night, his cadets will have a significant opportunity as they present the colors for Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The game will feature the Indiana Pacers against the Oklahoma City Thunder at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Four cadets from Arsenal Tech’s Army JROTC and Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) will participate in this event before tipoff.

“These young leaders walk and talk like professionals,” Giacobbe stated. “Watching them grow in confidence, discipline, and character—it’s one of the most rewarding parts of my career.”

The invitation to return comes after their notable appearance at the Eastern Conference Finals. Giacobbe attributes such opportunities to their dedication to service.

“We’re out in the community year-round—working with the Colts, Gleaners Food Bank, and the Pacers,” he explained. “These moments are earned through consistency and impact.”

Tech’s JROTC program is housed in a historic building that once served as military barracks and emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and service. Cadets engage in 40 to 50 color guard events each year.

“We rely on our third- and fourth-year cadets to mentor the younger ones,” Giacobbe mentioned. “Every event matters. We treat each with the same level of pride and professionalism.”

Performing on a national stage aligns with the program’s values of respect, service, and commitment beyond oneself.

“This is why we do it,” Giacobbe said.
