George Washington High School is organizing its 16th Annual Taste of the Westside and Silent Auction on Friday, April 25. The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the 1899 Event Center, located at 164 Steeples Blvd. It invites members of the community to enjoy local food while supporting students preparing for college and careers.
Karen Pierce, a Media Specialist at the high school, highlighted the dual purpose of the event. "This gathering not only aids in educational progress through scholarships but also nurtures a sense of community and friendship," Pierce said. She also emphasized the partnership with the 1899 Event Center, expressing that the event supports local businesses, thus promoting neighborhood growth and sustainability.
Attendees will experience dishes from popular Westside restaurants, with each ticket granting access to a selection of sample plates. Guests are encouraged to visit vendor booths and vote for the best dish. Returning crowd favorites include La Posada and Birrieria Andrade Estilo Jalisco, among others. New participants such as Lala’s Café and Tamales y Postres Luna will join the event.
A Silent Auction will also be held, with proceeds benefiting graduating seniors aiming for success in college and careers. Tickets for the event are priced at $12 for adults, $10 for students, and $7 for children aged 6–13, while children under 6 can attend for free. The venue offers free parking and disability access.
The event has sponsorship from Indiana University-Indianapolis. For additional details, Ann Kreicker can be contacted at 317-523-6927 or via email at akreicker@gmail.com.
