Kokomo's Carsten Beyer is gaining valuable experience as an intern with State Representative Mike Karickhoff and other members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2024 legislative session. Beyer, the son of Robert and Donna Beyer, graduated from Insight Schools of Los Angeles, California, and holds a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Indiana University Kokomo. He recently completed a master's degree in political science with a focus on international relations and comparative politics at Ball State University.

"This is an exciting work environment, where the pace is never the same day-to-day, but it's rewarding for both me and the representatives," Beyer said. "I also get to interact with their constituents, assisting them in a variety of ways. Interning at the Statehouse makes me a part of something bigger than myself."

State Representative Karickhoff praised Beyer's dedication. "Our interns come in every day and build important career skills while also helping us out here at the Statehouse," Karickhoff said. "Carsten is very hardworking, and we're happy to have him on our team."

During his internship, Beyer engages with constituents via phone calls, letters, and emails. He also assists in committee hearings and floor proceedings. Each year, the House of Representatives provides paid internship opportunities to eligible college, law school, and graduate students, as well as recent graduates, throughout the legislative session.
