Shortridge High School, in collaboration with the University of Indianapolis’ Shaheen College of Arts and Sciences, is set to host a special screening of the documentary "Counted Out" on March 31. The film delves into how mathematics influences various aspects of life, including the economy and democracy.

The event is part of the Reimagine Math initiative, which has organized 314 community screenings worldwide throughout March to celebrate Pi Day (3.14). Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion focusing on the film’s themes and discussing math literacy's significance in civic engagement and economic opportunities.

In today's digital world, understanding math is crucial for grasping concepts related to power and participation. "Counted Out" highlights how mathematical literacy—or its absence—affects education, employment, and beyond.

The documentary has been showcased at prominent festivals such as South by Southwest EDU and the San Francisco International Film Festival. This event provides an opportunity for Indianapolis audiences to engage in meaningful discussions about the impact of math on shaping our future.
