James Garfield School 31 has been awarded a $1,000 NFL PLAY 60 Youth Health and Wellness grant by the Indianapolis Colts in collaboration with the American Heart Association. This grant is part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting physical activity among children to help them achieve their full potential.
The NFL and the American Heart Association annually provide grants to 32 schools across the nation—each representing an NFL team—to support programs and equipment for physical activity. Schools become eligible by engaging in the NFL PLAY 60 Daily Movement Moment Challenge, which motivates students to be active for at least 60 minutes daily using the NFL PLAY 60 app.
"Participating in health and wellness activities empowers students to not only strengthen their bodies but also enhance their minds, setting the foundation for a successful and balanced future," said Garfield Principal Amanda Faulkner.
In October 2024, classrooms nationwide participated in this challenge through an interactive Movement Moment on the app. An avatar led students through daily exercises while teachers tracked participation and submitted results for a chance to win funding.
With ongoing support from the NFL PLAY 60 initiative, James Garfield School 31 students will gain access to new opportunities that encourage staying active and healthy, contributing to a healthier future.
