Katrina Lopez, an administrative specialist at Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), has been recognized with the Extra Mile Award from Cenergistic for her significant contributions to the district's energy conservation efforts. This award highlights her dedication and impact on IPS's sustainability initiatives.

The partnership between IPS and Cenergistic began in 2018 and has resulted in substantial energy savings and environmental benefits for the district. The program has saved IPS over $22.8 million, which is comparable to removing 21,144 cars from the road or planting more than two million trees. Additionally, 17 IPS buildings received ENERGY STAR Certification this year, an increase from 10 in 2023.

Lopez joined IPS in 2011 and was nominated for the award by Justin Mink of Cenergistic. Mink commended her availability, responsiveness, and selflessness in supporting the Energy Program’s objectives. "Lopez’s ability to provide timely, compassionate assistance and her positive attitude have made her a key player in IPS’s success," he stated.

In her role at IPS, Lopez manages various administrative tasks while being a resourceful problem-solver. She expressed that recognition is not her motivation: “I don’t do what I do for recognition,” she said. “I do it because I’m passionate about helping others.” Her commitment continues to drive IPS's sustainability successes and positively influence both the district and its community.
