U.S. Senator Todd Young from Indiana, alongside a group of colleagues, has reintroduced the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act. This legislation seeks to mandate the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to require automakers to include AM broadcast radio in their new vehicles without any additional charges.
Senator Young emphasized the importance of AM radio in ensuring public safety in Indiana. He stated, "AM radio plays a vital role in preserving public safety across Indiana. By delivering important weather updates, local news, and emergency and disaster response information, this bill will ensure Hoosiers – especially those in the most rural areas – continue to have access to this critical communication tool."
The bill is co-sponsored by several senators including Ted Cruz from Texas, Edward Markey from Massachusetts, Tammy Baldwin from Wisconsin, John Barrasso from Wyoming, Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee, Richard Blumenthal from Connecticut, Katie Britt from Alabama, Ted Budd from North Carolina, Maria Cantwell from Washington, Shelley Moore Capito from West Virginia, Tom Cotton from Arkansas, Kevin Cramer from North Dakota, Steve Daines from Montana, Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley both from Iowa. Other co-sponsors are Josh Hawley of Missouri; Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire; Mazie Hirono of Hawaii; Jim Justice of West Virginia; Angus King of Maine; Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota; James Lankford of Oklahoma; Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico; Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming; Roger Marshall and Jerry Moran both of Kansas. Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden both represent Oregon while Chris Murphy is a senator for Connecticut. Jack Reed represents Rhode Island while Pete Ricketts represents Nebraska along with Deb Fischer. Bernie Sanders supports Vermont's interests while Rick Scott stands for Florida's concerns with Jeanne Shaheen representing New Hampshire again joined by Tim Sheehy representing Montana once more supported by Tina Smith also backing Minnesota’s cause alongside Dan Sullivan standing up proudly for Alaska as well as Jim Banks being there on behalf off all Hoosiers together united under one common goal shared equally among them: keeping essential services accessible through traditional means like good old-fashioned radios!
