State Representative Joanna King, a Republican from Middlebury, has been appointed to the Indiana House of Representatives' majority leadership team as Deputy Speaker Pro Tempore. This appointment by House Speaker Todd Huston positions King as the highest-ranking woman within the 14-member Republican leadership team. In her new role, she will have the responsibility to preside over House floor sessions in Huston's absence.
"As a state representative, I'm committed to being the voice of Hoosiers in House District 49," King stated. "It's an honor to be selected as part of the House leadership team as we continue working to make Indiana one of the best places to live, work and raise a family."
In addition to her leadership role, King has been appointed to several standing committees within the House. She will serve on the Courts and Criminal Code Committee, Government and Regulatory Reform Committee, and Public Health Committee. These committee appointments are made biennially by the Indiana House Speaker following November elections and remain effective for members' two-year terms.
"We have a talented caucus and a strong leadership team," commented Huston. "I look forward to working together to advance our caucus priorities and address the issues important to Hoosiers in the coming session."
The legislative session is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Residents can access iga.in.gov for information on legislation, calendars, committee meetings, and sessions.
King also encourages constituents to visit in.gov/h49 for e-newsletter updates regarding Statehouse activities throughout the legislative session.
