Hamilton County lawmakers have been appointed to key House standing committees at the Statehouse. These appointments, made by the Indiana House Speaker every two years following the November election, are effective for the duration of the members' terms.

House Speaker Todd Huston expressed confidence in the legislators, stating, "We have a talented group of legislators who are ready to get to work and tackle issues important to Hoosiers." He also emphasized his enthusiasm about the House leadership team and their goals for the session.

State Representative Chuck Goodrich will chair the K-12 Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee. He will also serve on the House Education Committee and the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee. Goodrich remarked on his commitment to fiscal integrity and education: "Education makes up more than half of the state's budget and will continue to be a top priority."

State Representative Chris Jeter has been appointed vice chair of the House Judiciary Committee. He will also participate in the House Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee, as well as the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee. Jeter highlighted his legal background's relevance: "It’s great to be able to use my legal background to best serve our district and Hoosiers."

State Representative Donna Schaibley is set to serve as vice chair of the House Public Health Committee. She will also be part of the House Statutory Committee on Ethics and the House Insurance Committee. Schaibley commented on public engagement: "Committees are a great way for the public to voice their opinions about legislation."

State Representative Jerry Torr will chair the House Judiciary Committee while serving as vice chair of both the House Joint Rules Committee and other legislative committees.

The legislative session is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. on January 9th. Hoosiers can access information about legislation, calendars, committee meetings, and sessions through iga.in.gov.
