Marion County legislators have been appointed to key House standing committees at the Statehouse. These appointments, made by the Indiana House Speaker, occur biennially after the November election and remain effective for members' two-year terms.
State Representative Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis) continues as chair of the House Education Committee and will also serve on the House Public Health Committee. Behning emphasized the importance of wise investment in education funding, which constitutes nearly half of the state budget. "We will continue our work to empower parents to send their students to the school of their choice while ensuring teachers and administrators have the tools to prepare future generations for success," he stated.
State Representative Julie McGuire (R-Indianapolis) has been appointed vice chair of the House Public Health Committee and will serve on both the House Education Committee and the House Insurance Committee. McGuire highlighted her focus on education and healthcare as pivotal components for Indiana's progress. "I look forward to seeking and considering new ideas to improve Hoosiers' health and make sure our children are prepared for life after graduation," she said.
Newly elected State Representative Andrew Ireland (R-Indianapolis) will participate in the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee, the House Education Committee, and the House Judiciary Committee. Ireland expressed his readiness to address critical issues such as violent crime in Indianapolis and expanding educational choices for families. "I'm ready to hit the ground running and will work hard to represent the values of Hoosiers in my district," he remarked.
State Representative Chris Jeter (R-Fishers) retains his position as chair of the House Judiciary Committee while also serving on both the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee and the House Utilities, Energy, and Telecommunications Committee. Jeter looks forward to applying his legal expertise in examining complex issues within Indiana’s judicial system. "The judiciary committee will continue its work to ensure Indiana’s courts and criminal justice system protects public safety and all Hoosiers," he noted.
