State Representative Kyle Pierce recently awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash to Anderson University President John S. Pistole. The presentation took place at York Performance Hall, recognizing Pistole's contributions to both the local community and the state of Indiana.

Pierce highlighted Pistole's dedication, stating, "I am honored to have the privilege of awarding Dr. Pistole with the Sagamore of the Wabash, symbolizing a life of service and leadership in Indiana." He added that Pistole's work exemplifies the values represented by this prestigious award.

Pistole, an alumnus of Anderson University, graduated in 1978 before earning his juris doctorate from Robert H. McKinney School of Law. His career includes two years in law practice followed by a significant tenure with the FBI, where he was appointed deputy director in 2004 and led counter-terrorism efforts post-9/11.

In 2010, President Obama nominated Pistole as administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). During his term, he oversaw security operations for over 450 airports across the U.S., among other responsibilities. Pistole served as TSA's longest-serving administrator.

Since becoming Anderson University's fifth president in Spring 2015, Pistole has secured over $7 million in grants for the institution.

The Sagamore of the Wabash award was established in the 1940s by former Governor Ralph Gates and is regarded as Indiana's highest honor for individuals who have significantly contributed to the state.
