Nextech hosts student showcase on computer science solutions

Recently, students from Shenandoah Middle School participated in the Nextech CSforGood Showcase at the Statehouse. This event brought together student teams from various schools across the state to present their computer science projects. The showcase is organized by Nextech, a nonprofit based in Indianapolis dedicated to increasing access to computer science education for K-12 students in Indiana.

Since 2017, Nextech has invited students to demonstrate how computer science can address issues within their schools and communities. The organization provides over 200 workshops and supports Indiana teachers with the necessary content knowledge and instructional strategies for teaching computer science.

Students worked with teacher sponsors in teams of three to six across three divisions, creating technology projects that could be software applications, websites, physical computing devices, or prototypes. These projects highlighted the practical application of computer science in solving real-world problems. Finalists presented their work to judges, legislators, policy leaders, and members of the tech community at the Statehouse.

Nextech has collaborated with more than 900 schools and trained over 2,500 teachers so far. For additional information on Nextech's programs or this year's competition winners, visit nextech.org/programs/csforgood.

State Rep. Cory Criswell expressed his hope that more students will join such initiatives to succeed in an increasingly digital economy. For inquiries related to this event or other matters, contact his office through in.gov/h54 or call 317-232-9600.
